Tailored Elegance: A Mission Crossing the World

My father, Malek Dabaja, immigrated from Lebanon in 1970 with $20 in his pocket and a dream. His journey began at Hudson's Department Store in Flint, Michigan working as a tailor. He believed in treating others with respect, in helping to make others happy, and in the attention to detail required to create fine men's clothing. This passion and drive allowed him to take over the Hudson's tailor shop in just 3 months, and less than a year later, to afford for his wife and five children to join him in America. 5 years later, he opened his own clothing store and tailor shop, Malek Dabaja's Golden Needle Tailoring and Clothing. For 30 years, he brought bespoke tailoring and excellent customer service to Flint and Genesee County. His infectious smile and magnetic personality brought in and maintained a respected clientele, with people praising the detail and quality of his work, but also the dedication, respect, and selflessness that defined his personality. What started as a fantasy became a dream come true for a man who wanted to do things the right way and have an impact on his community, and that is exactly what he did.

I learned from my father to take pride in your work, make sure the customer is happy and treat each person with respect. I worked several years in and around the family business gaining knowledge on how suits should fit, spending hours on end watching and working with my father on developing the perfect, elegant fit. I have since worked several other jobs and bounced between different careers, but I have always been passionate about men's clothing. This passion has been burning in me for too long, and I started this business because I wanted make a difference in how each individual person feels in a fine crafted and tailored garment, to invoke those same feelings a man has for his clothing that my father did over 40 years ago. To bring back the look of the chivalrous gentleman, with the laid back style and flair of todays fashion. My goal is to bring back Old School Cool, with todays modern fits and fabrics creating that special look tailored to you.
